A side of tech with your cocktail

Would you like a side of tech with that?

‘Tis the season to be merry! With merriness, inevitably comes a few beverages that are alcoholic in nature. But as technology embeds itself into every aspect of our lives, enjoying a drink or two is also becoming technologically inclined.

Let me explain.

Technology hasn’t only infiltrated the digital and marketing space, but has extended its endless arms into the food beverage industry as well. With various companies focusing on developing robotics for the hospitality industry, (see Makr Shakr for instance), augmented reality (AR) is now also on the horizon for those that enjoy their drink with a side of gimmicks.

City Social’s Bar in London, UK, brings your cocktails to life through its AR menu, Mirage. Check it out in the video below.

What next?

According experts, hospitality is set to pioneer human-robot interaction, which will also provide the industry with an entirely new avenue for collecting data and getting to know customers.

But for those of us who don’t have access to a robotic bartender or AR, here’s two of our favourite cocktail recipes you can make yourself.

Oracle

A smoky, Southern-inspired cocktail, certain to put you in the holiday mood!

Includes 1 oz. rye whiskey, 1 oz. jasmine liqueur, 1/2 oz. ginger liqueur, 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice, and 2 dashes of orange bitters. Serve over rocks in an old-fashioned glass.

Pink Flirtini

The Pink Flirtini—the name says it all.

Blend 1 oz. raspberry vodka, 1/2 oz. Cointreau liqueur, 1/2 oz. pineapple juice, 1/2 oz. cranberry juice, and a squirt of lime juice in a martini glass. Top it off with champagne, and garnish with raspberries and mint leaves.
